 MEDICAL/ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE

Orthopedic massage involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of locomotor soft tissue to reduce pain and dysfunction. Restoring structural balance throughout the body allows us to focus on both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Orthopedic massage objectives are to restore structural balance in the muscle groups throughout the body, and decompress arthritic or painful joints. Muscle groups shorten due to prolonged poor posture or repetitive motions. Shortened muscle groups need to be stretched out or they will pull bones onto nerves and blood vessels, and cause or contribute to all sorts of orthopedic conditions.

In orthopedic massage we work to restore range-of-motion, balance out muscle groups surrounding the joints to treat pain, and work to prevent and rehabilitate injuries that involve muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments. Orthopedic massage is also great for performance enhancement.

Patients need to be actively involved in their own treatment by perhaps changing the ergonomics of the work environment, watching their posture, using good body mechanics, and doing specific stretches and exercises between treatments.

YOUR THERAPIST

STEPHEN M. RYAN, is a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist and is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Mr. Ryan recieved his A.A.S. degree in Therapeutic Massage and Integrated Health Care from Finger Lakes Community College in May, 2006. During this two year educational experience, Mr. Ryan was on  the Dean's List each semester and graduated at the top of his class. His extensive training includes a wide variety of Traditional and Oriental massage modalities.

Mr. Ryan has also completed a number of advanced training seminars focusing on the treatment of chronic conditions and injuries as well as  pain management. The major goal of this work is to help each client achieve a relatively pain-free existence.

Mr. Ryan is always searching for ways to improve his treatments through continuing education and staying current on the latest research in the bodywork field.

His lifelong love of natural health and hands on work fuel his desire to offer the most effective treatments possible in a nuturing, caring environment.
